What is a Senior Center?
Senior centers offer adults 60 years of age or older an array of opportunities that promote the emotional, social and physical wellbeing of older adults. What services are generally offered? Senior Centers provide recreational, social, health promotion and nutritional services. They offer planned activities such as lectures, day trips, and a variety of hobby and exercise programs. Many serve hot meals, and some provide home delivered meals. Senior centers often provide information and referrals to individuals seeking help with taxes, health, housing, and other concerns. Some senior centers provide transportation to and from the site.
How do I choose a Senior Center?
Most people choose to attend a senior center in their county. How do I pay for a Senior Center? It depends on the service or program you are interested in. Senior centers usually have a suggested donation for services, or charge a small fee. Some services may be free. Check with your local NY Connects Program to find a senior center near you.
