What is the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)?
HEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income New Yorkers with the cost of heating their homes. HEAP also offers an emergency benefit for households in a heat or heat related energy emergency
What services are generally offered?
HEAP provides heating benefits to supplement a household's annual energy cost. HEAP also provides emergency assistance for households in a heat or heat related energy emergency. HEAP can also provide for a furnace repair and/or replacement benefit for households with heating equipment that does not work.
How do I apply for HEAP?
You can begin applying for a HEAP grant in November each year. HEAP provides grants on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to apply early before funds are used up. You must meet income criteria to qualify. Applications may be completed and submitted online or at your local DSS office. For more information, contact your local NY Connects program.
