Description:Community Friendship Volunteer Program (CFVP)
is an entirely volunteer run program that was developed to fill an unmet need in the area of northern Franklin County. The program provides friendship, companionship and a helping hand to elders, serving as their advocates, and helping them stay connected to their communities.
CFVP is currently based out of the Community Health Center of the North Country's Malone health center site. The director, who is also a volunteer, coordinates volunteers and places them with individuals according to their need or interests. Volunteers of CFVP carry out the following tasks: transport elderly individuals to medical appointments, dialysis, or chemo therapy; visit elderly individuals in their home; coordinate activities like crafts, picnics, shopping trips and outings in the community; and, provide respite for caregivers that may need a break from time to time.
CFVP is unlike any other program found in the North Country region; it addresses very important unmet needs. CFVP cares about individuals, not just for the individual. Many elderly individuals lose touch with their community and, unfortunately, do not have the support they need to carry out daily activities. CFVP hopes to change this and improve the lives of elderly individuals in northern Franklin County.
