Program Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP):

Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP)

  • Description:

Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP)

In existence since 1987, the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program’s (NOEP) nationally recognized model is one of the largest Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) outreach programs in the nation. SNAP is a federally-funded program that stretches the monthly food budgets of all who meet program guidelines. NOEP also works to increase participation in the School Breakfast Program and the Summer Food Service Program, which provides nutritious meals to school-aged children. Hunger Solutions New York manages NOEP in nearly every county in New York State.

Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services (CCSCSS) is proud to partner with Hunger Solutions New York for 10 years to offer this valuable program to the residents of Schenectady County.

    What Does NOEP Do?

NOEP offers free, confidential, one-on-one services that connect New Yorkers with nutrition assistance programs. Our NOEP Coordinator helps applicants gather documentation for, fill out, and send in the SNAP application. Through NOEP’s community-based work, each year hundreds of Schenectady County new households apply for and receive nutrition assistance.

    NOEP coordinators:

    1) offer free, confidential pre-screening,

    2) help applicants through the SNAP application process,

    3) offer home visits and in-person or over-the-phone assistance,

    4) work with local government offices to ensure applications are processed correctly,

    5) refer households to other nutrition assistance programs and community resources, and

    6) educate, inform, clears up misinformation, and dispel myths of SNAP benefits.

How Do I Know If I’m Eligible for Benefits?

NOEP eligibility is based on family size and income. In 2016, Governor Cuomo raised the gross income test level of the federal poverty level estimating an additional 750,000 working households to be eligible for SNAP along with $688.5 million in additional federal SNAP benefits to New Yorkers annually.

How Do I Contract the NOEP Coordinator?

The NOEP coordinator is available at the Catholic Charities office at 1473 Erie Boulevard by phone and office visits.
