Description:Legal Services of the Hudson Valley provides support, advocacy and civil legal representation to poor and low-income families and individuals in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties. Legal Services of the Hudson Valley helps low income individuals and families with free civil (non-criminal) legal counsel to protect their basic necessities of life, including shelter, freedom from physical abuse, medical care and access to legal protections and supports that are guaranteed by law, but not always provided. Legal Services of the Hudson Valley’s employees speak Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Italian, German, French and Haitian-Creole on-site at many locations, and provide additional languages via Translation Service.
LSHV provides free legal representation in the areas of: Crime Victims advocacy, Disability advocacy, Domestic Violence. Elder Law, HIV/AIDS advocacy, housing, ICAN, LGBTQ, Public Benefits Assistance, and Veterans & Military Families advocacy. Through LSHV’s Pro Bono unit, volunteer attorneys are recruited and trained to represent clients in matters involving many of the types of cases above as well as:
