A Patient Review Instrument (PRI) is a medical evaluation tool that identifies whether or not an individual is eligible for skilled nursing care placement. As part of the PRI, the "Screen" is required. The PRI and Screen is used to determine the level of care and appropriateness of placement. It will also factor into the reimbursement the facility will receive for providing care. Basically, the rule of thumb is: the more care or complexity of care that the patient requires, the higher the reimbursement the facility will receive from Medicare and Medicaid.mThe eight-page PRI form is completed by certified trained evaluators, usually a registered nurse.
