  • Description:

Property Rehabs - Finding a safe, affordable home that is not in need of costly repairs and updates in Central New York can be a challenge for many low- to moderate-income families – especially those looking to invest in transitional neighborhoods. These families can be a stabilizing force in our neighborhoods and HHQ’s rehab activities aim to create safe, affordable housing that meets their needs. Whether they are renovating multiple properties in a single neighborhood or fixing up the worst house on an otherwise stable street, HHQ’s substantial rehabilitation efforts transform aging, neglected properties into high-quality, affordable, and energy-efficient homes for qualified buyers. Income restrictions may apply to some properties. New Construction - Think you can’t find new construction in the City of Syracuse? Think again. HHQ has built more than 60 new, affordable and energy-efficient single-family homes since 2004. These quality new homes are built to last and offer eligible buyers years of affordable, low maintenance home ownership. They feature 3-4 bedrooms, modern kitchens and 1.5 – 2 brand new baths, hardwood floors, energy efficient furnaces and hot water heaters and much more. Constructing safe, affordable new homes for low- to moderate-income families is a critical component of their targeted revitalization plans. Income restrictions may apply for some newly constructed homes. Demolitions - Vacant, neglected properties continue to be a problem in our neighborhoods. In the City of Syracuse, substantial disinvestment of the City’s urban core, and a significant population loss of more than 30% has drastically reduced the demand for housing, leaving a glut of more than 3,000 vacant and deteriorating homes in some of the City’s most challenged neighborhoods. If left alone, these properties will continue to negatively affect the property values of surrounding homes and create potentially dangerous conditions. HHQ’s comprehensive approach to neighborhood stabilization and revitalization includes the removal of these hazardous properties and over the last 15 years, we have demolished more than 400 properties.
